On 16 April 2016, a 7,8 magnitude earthquake (1) rattled the western coast of Ecuador, killing more than 650 people, injuring more than 16'000 and leaving some 25'000 people homeless (2).
As seen on the map below (3), the epicenter of this devastating earthquake was less than 150 km away from Sathia Say school in Bahía de Caráquez. Despite the very strong intensity recorded there, not a single child was injured. Damages to roads, bridges and houses, on the other hand, were huge.
With pictures and testimonies, we will guide you through this beautiful region of Ecuador during our field trip; we will show you the work in progress and, more importantly, the challenges ahead. We wish to thank our donors here for their ongoing support and generosity.
Please do not hesitate to post any comment or question you may have and we will try to address it as best as we can.
